Baking Blast - Feb. 27, 2025 March List
Hello Everyone, Hope you are doing well; it has been an interesting winter. It reminds me of what it was like when I was a kid growing up in Indiana. Hey, when the weather is crazy, it's a fun time to make goodies, right?
When the weather was yucky outside, my Mom would get us involved in making homemade donuts or funnel cakes as the snow was falling outside or the temps were dropping. The cold doesn't seem so bad with something good to look forward too. Plus, we had a blast decorating the goodies!! After we did our chores of taking care of the animals outside, we would have the goodies with a hot cup of cocoa and warm up with a smile. YUMMMM
We have St. Patrick's Day in March, so I went researching about flatbread for Ireland. In my exploration of the world of flatbreads, I was reminded that things like English Muffins are in the flatbread group also, and I looked around for other like breads. I came upon the Irish Farl, which is a flatbread made with soda but still cooked on a griddle, although it is referred to by the Irish as Boxty. Welcome to my test kitchen, Irish Boxty (Farl).
With a lot of my heritage going back to Scotland, I also searched and found Scottish Oatcakes, so for March, I am testing the Irish Farl and Scottish Oatcakes. Let the fun continue!!
Also a reminder, if anyone needs to special order for something just let me know. I just need you to let me know at least two days ahead of when you need it. I am very open to special orders, just have to fit them in my baking schedule. For example, one of my customers wanted some loaves of Peasant Bread. So, I worked with them to find the best day for both of us.
I am looking to be back in May at the Farmer's Market, probably on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month this summer. On the Saturdays that I am not at the Farmer's Market, I may still be continuing my baking blast those weeks. Still working out everything. I am also looking into a few other things, like teaching basic baking to others.
If you live in Greenfield, I can deliver to your home and if not, I can meet you at the fairgrounds, near the awning where we have the summer market. Don't forget this is not connected to the Farmer's Market. When you order anything, I can send you an invoice via Square or you can pay me when I drop it off.
